Asthma gene variants may cut risk of brain cancer

NewsNew research suggests that gene variants, which are known to raise the risk of asthma, decrease the risk of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a common type of brain cancer that is rapidly fatal.Several reports have linked asthma with a reduced risk of brain tumors, but the studies may have suffered from various design issues, lead author Dr. Judith Schwartzbaum, from Ohio State University in Columbus, told Reuters Health. "So, to me, the evidence just wasn't credible."
